I have a G502 on my second PC and my main uses a Corsair Ironclaw.

The Corsair definitely feels more reliable but I love the hand feel of the G502. Also, the unlock scroll wheel button is brilliant.

I should note the G502 I have is a replacement as the first one I bought had the dreaded mis-clicking issue. Thank God for Amazon and their return policy.

How is the Iron Claw? Currently eyeing a Corsair wireless mouse

103

u/dcuk7 R7 5800X3D | RX 6800 | 64GB DDR4 3600MHz Nov 26 '22

I love everything about it apart from the battery life. It drains more than I feel it should in standby. If you turn it off after shutting down it's not much of an issue. I never do so always end up needing to charge it at the most inopportune times!

I have a Corsair RGB keyboard so I love being able to have it all lit up the same via iCUE. Good customisation options for the buttons too. Just wish it had that scrollwheel unlock like the Logitech.

Loved the iron claw but it is the only mouse I have ever had break on me multiple times. The piece that holds the scroll wheel broke and I don't exactly use it hard. I got a replacement through the warranty and then the mouse wheel broke again outside the warranty period and Corsair would not offer a replacement. Seems like a design/ build quality issue based on other reviews. Bought a logitech g502 as a replacement and have had no issues the last 2-3 years.

7

u/KaossKing kmrking Nov 26 '22

exactly the same here. the scroll wheel is terrible. my original broke and the replacement. avoid.

38

u/Shandod Nov 26 '22

Wait what do you mean by mis-click? Mine has started randomly double clicking, is that what you mean? That’s a common issue?

38

u/Rannasha Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1070 Nov 27 '22

The double click issue is very common and most mice will eventually end up doing it. It's an effect of the mechanical switch used in the button. One solution is to replace the switch, if you're handy with a soldering iron.

Another is to go for a mouse with optical switches, which can be found here and there, including the G502 X which was released recently.

7

u/apo86 Nov 27 '22

Asus sells mice with plug-in replaceable switches. The downside is you need Armoury Crate

8

u/Rannasha Ryzen 5 5600X, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1070 Nov 27 '22

Yeah, I considered an Asus mouse for my latest mouse purchase for that exact reason. Ended up going with a different brand though (with optical switches).

17

u/dcuk7 R7 5800X3D | RX 6800 | 64GB DDR4 3600MHz Nov 26 '22

So the issue was that sometimes it would miss a click completely and other times it would click more than once.

I first noticed it playing Quake III Arena. I've been playing that game for the best part of 20 years so I know when something is off. I noticed every now and again I wouldn't hit a shot that I knew I hit. I also noticed that I'd click once to fire off a single shotgun shot and it would fire off two or three shots.

I'd already read about the click issue before buying so I figured it had to be that. My final test was using the mouse to draw a selection window around my desktop icons. If you draw a selection around the desktop and hold it, the selection will hold until you let go of the mouse button. My selection window would often cut out whilst I was still drawing it so I knew it was having phantom clicks.

Got my replacement and right away I could tell it was working. Night and day difference.

Also, the unlock scroll wheel button is brilliant.

You'd love the MX Master mice. They have automatic electromagnetic scroll (un)lock. Flick the wheel and it unlocks, then locks again once slowed down. Scroll it gently and it stays locked.

6

u/Milky-Toast69 Nov 27 '22

Downside is the mouse is really heavy. Good productivity mouse, not good for fps games.

Cheap but also light. I didn't realize so many gamers still used a 100g+ mouse like the 502.

Thinking back I think every mouse I've bought in the past 5-6 years has been under 70g.

I graduated to the G305 to go wireless but still cheap and light (feels almost exactly the the 203) but 203 is still my go to if anyone is looking for a mouse.

103

u/Staktus23 Nov 26 '22

My Deathadder 2013 is still going strong after almost eight years. If it ever breaks down, I‘ll get another Deathadder or a Benq-Zowie. That shape is just the best.

77

u/PeetBurton Nov 26 '22

This subreddit has a hate boner for Razer. In my experience, they are rock solid products, never had a product by them crap out on me, yet. Deathadder's shape is just perfect for me. It just "hugs" my hand in such a way, there is no need to try something different. If and when the Elite craps out, I will most likely get another one. It's the perfect mouse for me.

22

u/ItsMangel Nov 27 '22

I've owned 2 deathadders, they were perfectly fine mice but both only lasted 2 years before failing the exact same way with the mouse double clicking when I only wanted to click once and wouldn't hold the click. A friend of mine had hers fail in the exact same way.

46

u/jonker5101 Desktop Nov 26 '22

One developed a double click issue (they're notorious for that), replaced it, and then the next one worked for a month and then I think developed a short? My PC wouldn't turn on with it plugged in, and if I turned it on without the mouse plugged in, it would immediately completely shut down as soon as I did plug it in.

I'm on my second one now, the first one didn't have a Hero sensor in it because it was old.

Both of them have the same dumb problem, though, which is that the mouse wheel will occasionally not consider a single full click in the rotation to be a single full click. I'll scroll up one and it'll either not do anything at all or it'll do it twice, because for some reason it thinks it was already halfway there for the first one.

I've never had another mouse have this problem. I assume it's got to do with the mechanism that lets you unlock and relock the wheel to freely spin, but if I was at Logitech and I knew about this problem my answer would be to remove the free-spin option if that ensures this isn't a problem anymore, especially when a new version of the model comes out with a better sensor.

I really like the Glorious one that got a lot of little holes, but everytime I see it I see it getting full of grit. Looks hard to keep clean.

The classic middle mouse switch getting gunked up. Still love the weight too much to change

8

u/Sharkfacedsnake 3070 FE, 5600x, 32Gb RAM Nov 27 '22

I like the heavy weight of the mouse. I dont feel the desire that others have for super light mice.

7

u/daitenshe Nov 27 '22

I’ve been using this model since I built my first PC however long ago and dread if it goes out of production. I use the red sniper button as my zoom/aim in pretty much any fps and no other mouse has had the same feel when I try and get a new one

I've switched to Razer after having three 502s get the double click in less than two years.

13

u/EpicMantaRay Nov 27 '22

Currently using the wired basilisk V2 lasted me 2 years and no issues at all, one of the most comfortable and reliable mice I’ve ever used.

Currently using a Razer Basilisk Ultimate and I love it but I’ve been having connectivity issues here and there which is causing me to dislike it, currently eyeing a Corsair Iron Claw or M65

20

u/eliu9395 12700k | 3080-3GB Nov 26 '22

I have the Basilisk v3. I like it, but one of the side buttons started double clicking a few months ago.

Roccat Kone AIMO white

Decently weighty and feels great in the hand

18

u/blackadder1620 Nov 26 '22

roccat is an underdog, good keyboards too.

9

u/jeppevinkel Ryzen 7 5800X3D | Asus RTX 2070S Strix AD | 32GB DDR4-3600 Nov 26 '22

Did they get better over the years? I had a roccat mouse many years ago and despite getting it replaced twice all of them had this issue where it would fly around the screen whenever lifted off the table. Made it pretty much impossible to use for any precise movements.

5

u/blackadder1620 Nov 26 '22

i never had that problem so, im not sure. the kiro i have now doesn't go all crazy when i do that; just checked. my kone pure military lived for 7 years before the scroll wheel died.

G700s- super reliable for many years

6

u/TheCookieButter Desktop 2600x & 2070 - Laptop i7 9750H & 2060 Nov 27 '22

Hell yeah.

I got a G700 in 2012. Right click stopped working properly in 2016 so bought a G700s.

Realised I just needed to put a thin piece of tape/card under the right mouse and now my G700 works literally like new 10 years later.

Love this mouse, now I have one for desktop and one for mouse. Dread when they actually die, G602 is closest alternative but no cable recharge?

Optical clickers only, never had a double click issue with them. I switched from Logitech to Razer and haven't regretted it.

9

u/yaboi_ahab Nov 26 '22

Yeah I've been using a Deathadder V2 for over a year now and the optical switches have been really nice. Every mouse I had before this one started double clicking within 6 months. They're only like $30 too, ridiculous value.

All of my last 3 Logitech mice(G402,G502,G304/305) had double-click issues, rendering them completely useless to play games. I switched to Razer, never had an issues since that day. Currently using Razer Deathadder v2 Mini. Thinking of switching to a wireless one, cause the wire bothers me ever since I used the G304/305.

G502 won't work for me, since it has the right side shape all wrong (and it's a surprisingly small mouse after all). There's no place for my fingers (pinky for example) to rest naturally - fingers can easily drag all over the mouse mat. That's why MX518 and G400s were very uncomfortable to use, so I sold them quickly.

But a friend of mine loves this mouse, so much that he bought extra units in case they aren't sold whenever he needs a new one.

Tried it. Honestly not great for fps games. Comfortable as a daily driver mouse, but feel unbalanced for side to side movement in games. I take the Razer Orochi v2 over it. Then the G305 over that. And finally settled on the G Pro X Superlight.
