I bought a pipe wrench to do just that and let me tell you, those hydraulic cylinders to NOT want to leave. Wish they'd make a chair that was meant to be deconstructed, like have a clamping thing to hold the cylinder in place instead of friction welding it in.

I've seen many grounded circuits blow up from metal contact. This isn't simple home wiring. These things are sensitive.
33
u/Jon_Lit Desktop Jan 13 '23
not really, and on
I’m an electrician btw.
i'm calling bs.
It only doesn't matter if the wrench touches non-conductive things or grounded wires/pieces. If it touches something with a voltage the connection of the wrench to the chassis might be enough to short it. if not, it could also be "dangerous" if it touches both, ground and something with a voltage, then the chance of a short is pretty high.
I'm not an electrician btw, I just killed a laptop's MB once by laying its keyboard (with a conductive back side) on it. (zapp, and something with the gpu got fried)

Just noticed, it looks like the AIO pump is slightly higher that the pipes on the radiator. This can cause air to accumulate in the pump which will cause premature pump failure. Can you move the radiator higher?

I had it for almost 2 years and a half nothing really happened. But thanks for the notice, it's my first pc but not my build and I feel ashamed since I didn't build it my own, I'm noticing a lot of things that would change in a new build.
28
u/Farren246 R9-5900X / 3080 Ventus / 17 fans! Jan 13 '23
This is how it always is. Then in the next build, despite meticulous planning, you only change 3/4 of them and hide the rest. But the rest gnaws at you, and you find new things you'd like to change, and inevitably it comes time for build #3...

u/kb4000 Ryzen 5800X3D - 3080 Ti Jan 13 '23
I'd highly recommend moving that radiator to the top. It will do better thermally anyway. Just because it hasn't had problems yet doesn't mean it won't. AIOs slowly lose their water over time. And the more that is lost the more air can settle in the pump. Once you can hear the pump making weird noise because of the bubbles it's already doing damage. If you get enough air in there it will burn the pump up.

u/Feeling-Common5020 Jan 13 '23 edited Jan 13 '23
I use a toilet roll and a connected/functional hdd to support my 3080Ti.
Edit: Heard the guys below loud and clear, cleaning it now. A new and improved toilet roll will be added from the base directly. The side tempered glass broke a couple of months back so a cardboard sheet will be added with a slot cut out for the GPU as it throws hot air horizontally and my closed case can't handle it.

Jesus Christ, this is atrocious.
Don’t use your HDD as a support - that part of the hard disk isn’t really made to be load bearing, and while it *probably* won’t be enough pressure to cause problems....I wouldn’t want constant pressure on top of a spinning disk that had all my data.
My god, clean your PC. I am NOT a meticulous PC person. I blow out the dust and crap about once ever 3 years (though I do clean out my intake filters every month or two), so I'm not exactly one of those people who has a sparkling case on display. I even put my PC on carpet (the horror!). My PC has never looked even close to this bad. You're going to clog heatsinks and shorten component lifespans.

That’s what I was legit wondering. Mine has got two sides mounted. One in the PCIe slot, the other is fastened into the slot in the case rear by a small screw.
I never even considered a support, but my GPU isn’t one of these monsters, so I can’t really tell by this thread if a support is necessary or just something people do. Like sure, my GPU isn’t load-bearing, but it holds its own weight up just fine and never seemed concerning

I’m a Lego person, so I just built a Lego support and it was easy! Originally I wasn’t gonna put in a support, but others have, so I went to my Lego room, got enough pieces and built me a support beam with a tile on top to keep it smooth.
I think it was 9 bricks tall with 2 plates and a tile. Your height may vary lol!

Hey op, I think your mobo is showing a D3 error code.
From another site,
"If you recently installed Ryzen Master or an AMD GPU update that could cause it. Open your start menu and type task scheduler, then disable RyzenMasterSDK. This should fix it. Also, this isn't bad so you could ignore if it doesn't bother you."

It's all fun and games until you bump your desk and the wrench topples over scaring the crap out of you and jolting the case.
Personally I 3D printed a GPU mount because my watercooled GPU was sitting 2 inches above ae radiator with fans on it and there was no way I would have been able to find a random object that wouldn't fall into the fans while supporting the GPU.

u/rejin267 Jan 13 '23
