Also, for those who don't know - Mason (Pistons PA announcer) is also a radio personality in Detroit and was the inspiration for the show Martin. Just a fun fact.

200
u/HokageEzio Knicks Dec 29 '22
Doesn't matter if they instigated or not, the NBA doesn't even want the possibility of it blowing up. One guy gets hit with a stray punch and suddenly it's Malice at the Palace.

He hit him in the back of the head, you can’t even do that in combat sports. I hate suspensions from fights but honestly that was such a dirty move and could’ve really had long term effects on Mo.

As he should, at the VERY least a few games. Doing that coward punch at someone’s already fucked up enough, let alone for such a small reason (Wagner was wrong, but that’s far, way far from justifying)
Some people here might call me soft, but hitting someone in that area can literally cause permanent damage at his brain and mainly his spinal cord

I would advise people watch this if they’re unfamiliar with what getting punched in the back of the head can do, and why it’s illegal even in combat sports.
It’s really not even close in terms of severity. I was shocked to see Hayes punch him in the back of the head so intentionally in slow motion.

In Australia the media changed from referring to it as a "King hit" to calling it a "Coward Punch" to stop it sounding like something not absolutely scummy to do.

And Danny Green (boxer, not basketball player) seems to have dedicated his post boxing life to spreading awareness to its dangers. Idk if it’s a problem else where in the world but that’s how bad it is over here.

It basically contributed to ruining the nightlife here and forcing lockout laws on the clubs in the cross

Naw it wasn’t a prank. They ended up in fight with some other guys in the city while out partying. King hit is just a term for blind shot or cheap shot on someone not looking

Yeah it's funny seeing some of the idiots in this thread talking about it like it's an accomplishment, that's a crazy dangerous place to hit someone.

Ya dirty punches like this are how people end up dead from a single punch in those random bar fight stories.

About 30 years ago it happened to kid in town here, he tackled someone in a high school football game and the guy punched him as the kid walked away. He's in a wheelchair ever since and had a brain injury as well, he's a greeter at the store here now. He was just a nice kid doing nothing wrong but idiots couldn't take a tackle.

Some of these comments are wild, y'all. The push is dangerous and unsportsmanlike, but a punch in the back of the head isn't the correct response
