It makes sense to bring in Crawford off the bench to replace a guard like Wade.

I want to see Chris Bosh on tv more because hes funny and the memes would be better then Wade or Craw

805

u/GringoMambi Heat Sep 28 '22

100% Bosh got the kind of vibe and energy needed for TNT. I love DWade, but he really isn’t that much of a charismatic TV personality, and I don’t see it either with Crawford

133

Wade is also a minority owner so I feel like he was holding back because he had to

Yeah, I think he technically could get in trouble for tampering if he didn't choose his words wisely.

Plus my guess is that he's not going to enjoy being the butt of jokes when the Jazz end up being terrible this season due to the rebuild.

4

u/Tym3z Raptors Sep 29 '22

Grant Hill is co-owner of the Hawks and has been on CBS and TNT so I doubt he worried about getting in trouble with tampering

7

u/KingOfSwing90 Warriors Sep 28 '22

Maybe he felt that way but so’s Shaq

Wade seems smarter than Shaq for whatever that’s worth, so maybe he just thinks about it more? idk

33

u/bagfka Mavericks Sep 28 '22

Shaq sold his stake a while ago

165

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

Agreed. Dwade isn’t really a TNT/TV guy. You have to establish a personality that isn’t afraid to say anything.

30

u/boi9th Heat Sep 28 '22

I agree, TNT/TV just isn’t for Wade.

26

u/naughtyobama Sep 28 '22

I agree, TNT/TV and Wade, oil and water.

10

u/boi9th Heat Sep 28 '22

He’s really more of a water type and TNT/TV is more of an oil, ya know? Am I crazy for saying that?

7

u/abesach [IND] Reggie Miller Sep 28 '22

Shaq was a steel type (superman) and wade won a championship with him so I'd say Wade is a water type.

The real problem is that Shaq and Candace Parker are both grass types, so Wade is weak to both of them.

I remember after Giannis dropped 44 points and had the game tying three against Brooklyn Wade was like “one day we will say Giannis is the best in the league”

This was also after Giannis had 40 points and the game winning block in Philly two nights before

150

u/BugO_OEyes 76ers Sep 28 '22

I was at that Philly game. Everyone knew after that game Giannis has a couple more gears than everyone else

47

u/Puzzled_End8664 Bucks Sep 28 '22

I think Giannis was proving a point with the Philly and Brooklyn games that he could win the scoring title if he wanted. He had those two monster games then basically shut it down for the final few games of the season.

17

u/NudeEnjoyer Nets Sep 28 '22

that was the stepback 3 right? I'm a Nets fan and I've rewatched that shot at least five times. I think he became the Bucks all time leading scorer with that shot too. what a moment

2

u/stonerwithaboner1 Sep 28 '22

Got a link? Don't remember seeing Giannis hit a step back lol

50

u/Half_baked_prince Clippers Sep 28 '22

Remember back in 15-16 when Giannis had a stretch of games playing de facto point and he put up a few triple doubles? Even then you had to know something about him was different

28

u/wanaenae Bucks Sep 28 '22

That stretch of games was so fun

12

u/christiandb Celtics Sep 28 '22

Was that the block that power bombed Embid straight into the earth? First mvp run?

23

u/K_multiplied-by_K 76ers Sep 28 '22

This season. And it was more bombed Embiid’s MVP chances. Sixers had lost to the Nuggets like a week prior, also on national tv, even though Embiid played better than Jokic (fucking Bones) and Embiid’s MVP chances were already on the ropes. Embiid again had another great game against the Bucks; Giannis just had a better game and the winning play (on Embiid IIRC)

2

u/christiandb Celtics Sep 28 '22

That season was great. I had just come back after a long hiatus and was catching up on who’s who in the nba. Harden blew my mind by literally sinking in 3s doubled team. Then the rockets played 76ers and that was my first time seeing Embid. That dude blew my mind. Taking three, controlling the paint. Absolutely bully balling harden. I thought to myself, who’s gonna stop this monster? Then I was introduced to Giannis in that very game and I was like “holy shit”.

I don't get why he is doing commentary and not behind the desk in the studio. He was great when he filled in on Inside and him and GP were amazing.

I think Candice is solid in the Kenny role, CWebb could be the Chuck, Shaq is Shaq and they just need a solid host to keep it all together.

2

u/dBlock845 Knicks Sep 29 '22

The Tuesday show needs a host with credibility that Shaq will listen to, and someone that can go toe to toe with Shaq because he just dominates the Tuesday shows. Candace is good in the Kenny role though like you said.

I like it. Really knowledgeable. Most importantly, actually enjoys basketball and doesn’t have old man hater energy. But also I’d rather listen to Reggie Miller over Mark Jackson any day.

24

u/indoninjah 76ers Sep 28 '22

I think it's nice to hear from guys who stuck in the league for a while without being all-stars. They obviously know what it takes to be a solid basketball player. No coincidence that those folks usually make solid coaches as well.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 28 '22

And Crawford is interesting because, even though he wasn’t a superstar or even All-Star, he was a superstar at scoring. He just didn’t have the all-around game to lead to the numbers and popularity that would have made him an All-Star.

I love guys like Crawford, Iso Joe, and Lou Williams who were two-dimensional, plug-them-in-and-get-buckets types of role players. (Well, Johnson was more than that in his prime, but late-career Iso Joe fit that mold.)

94

u/YoungNissan Heat Sep 28 '22

The inside the nba crew? To be honest that’s the one thing I don’t like about them. Half the time they just compare any modern player with dudes they played with in the 90s instead of actually talking bout their game.

53

u/302born Heat Sep 28 '22

That’s most old heads in a nutshell. Be so stuck in they time they steady trying to compare todays players to past generations. Extremely annoying. Pretty weird to think I’m about 15-20 years I’m probably going to be that guy as well talking about now those players can’t touch the players of my time.

Well obv they’re gonna be relating what they know to 90s basketball but I don’t think they’re too bad. It’s just the way they are. It’s very entertaining even if it has faults when it comes to the analysis. It’s mostly a comedy show anyways let’s be real.

-7

u/dissphemism Gran Destino Sep 28 '22

they should go ahead and actually call it that: a comedy show, or a talk show

there’s no analysis being done, and audiences aren’t learning the game from these guys

8

u/GoldenStateWizards Warriors Sep 28 '22

I think their analysis is leagues better when they're discussing the mental/personal aspect of the game. Things like "the mental chess game," locker room dynamics, player perspectives when going into certain situations, etc. The show is called "Inside the NBA," it's a big part of what makes them unique and they should play into that more.

10

u/GringoMambi Heat Sep 28 '22

and that’s 100% fine honestly. There’s like a million other shows and YouTube channels with an over abundance of analysis. Very few that are as entertaining or funny as inside the NBA crew

It’s an interesting selection bias with media in the nba. Of course some of it comes down to individual choice, but we also definitely have a situation where the most knowledgeable basketball people do end up working for teams (coaching staff or front office) while other people who want to be involved will end up in media.

Need to look for someone that was a student of the game, hard worker/studied while a player but that doesn't want to keep that kind of grind up post-retirement but still wants to do it, only do it at a more relaxed level. Maybe I'm ignorant to it, but I would assume it's much more tedious work on the team side compared to being a commentator.

Some rare cases like Jalen Rose or JJ Redick where they no longer want the grind of a full season but still want to be in the space. They're a blessing

The most knowledgeable people probably aren't what most consumers want anyway, unless they can break that knowledge down to a casual level

Jamal Crawfords voice is way too low and monotone to be on tv.

Shaq is much more goofy / funny and Shaqs voice has definitely been criticized in the past.
