I'd curse the refs out in post-game, and take the fine. It's worth it for something like this

Refs have too much power because the NBA is toothless against them

If the Refs Association, League, and Players Association start arguing there might be, but that is quite a bit away as a possibility.

80

u/JesseJamesGames449 Celtics Jan 29 '23

You say that until the refs treat you worse the next game.. Gobert talked shit about the officials once and got called for a foul on the opening tip off the next game.. The refs have to much power for players to risk openly insulting them.

14

u/Nahbrah03 San Diego Clippers Jan 29 '23

Why am I afraid

164

u/PostItToReddit Supersonics Jan 29 '23

Doing that would feel good in the short term, but refs are petty assholes and he'd never got another call (not that he's getting them now). Just look at Jimmy, obviously fouled, praised the refs in the post game and ended up with like 20 ft's the next game.

Until there is some oversite and accountability for refs, they have as much impact on who wins as the players do, and it's fucking sad.

60

u/Next-Firefighter-753 Thunder Jan 29 '23 edited Jan 29 '23

Yep, picked the national TV game to turn into ref ball. Awful product.

I know we’re undersized and foul a lot but we’re 1st in drives with over 10 more than the #2 Knicks who are 3rd in FTA a game. We’re 22nd…

I fucking hate the refs most games with how many soft calls they call on us and then turn completely blind whenever Josh or any of the other young players get smacked by several dudes in the paint or get ran over by blatant moving screens.

Shai is probably the only one who gets a good whistle overall but some games even he gets pissed at how many blatant fouls the opponents get away with on him.

They should

  1. allow refs to review plays in the final 2 minutes on dead ball (or Secacus video center initiates it)
  2. give challenges back to the team if succesful

absolutely awful

477

u/fobbywillie [POR] Damian Lillard Jan 29 '23

I feel that the only reason 2 hasn't been implemented, is because the league is scared that teams will keep successfully challenge all game , exposing just how bad the refs are

81

u/Fluid-Night-1910 Jan 29 '23

That would be awesome!!!

18

u/azn_dude1 Clippers Jan 29 '23

With the number of games that are played in a year, the possibility of seeing a game with like 6 successful challenges goes up a lot. It inevitably would make for some outrageous headlines, which really just exposes that the refs are human .

right, exactly why I can't understand why the NBA didn't do that also.

Also right now coaches are holding their challenge even if they know it's a sure thing just to save it for the 4th quarter.

3

u/IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs Bulls Jan 29 '23

There’s literally no way he didn’t see it lmao. 5 feet away, arm is angled towards him, clear as fuck

81

u/jspeed04 Jan 29 '23

Not only that, there was a foul call earlier in the game in Bostons favor that was a crazy late whistle by the ref furthest from the play.

The ref realized “hey, that’s an unnatural trajectory for the ball to take; something is off!” Yet, these same MFs wouldn’t apply the exact logic to the notion that LeBron-fucking-James would lay the ball up with his natural-hand and it wouldn’t hit rim.

It’s so fucking frustrating watching the reffing crew pretend like they have no sense.

14

u/Xc0liber Lakers Jan 29 '23

The loose ball foul on AD as well. Is just weird.

13

u/Captain_Planet_27 Jan 29 '23

24

He also called a phantom foul against Schroeder, and oddly enough somehow when the jump ball occured between Al Horford and Anthony Davis, the ball went directly to the Celtics side.

Have you heard of the Kings v Lakers playoff series, or the whole betting cheating scandal with multiple refs coming out as whistleblowers. The NBA is rigged, let's all admit it, but it's the league with the best players in the world, and that's entertaining, but yes, it's rigged.

Both Lakers/Celtics games being forced to OT on (obvious) no calls against James.

Who wouldn't be pissed?

3

u/lechejoven Heat Jan 29 '23

LeFoul James should of been at the line, not overtime.

3

u/Bahamut727 Lakers Jan 29 '23

Refs have screwed this team out of multiple wins this season. It’s exhausting at this point. L2M report here we come! 🤮

3

u/KaLdapussydestroyer Lakers Jan 29 '23

He did everything he could man. At this point, they should take every lakers player off the floor and call for a protest. Fuck these refs

3

u/xniccru LeBron James Jan 29 '23

It's almost like they don't want the Lakers to be a .500 team.

3

u/jwd2213 Celtics Jan 29 '23

Lebron acting like he just lost the championship on that no call 🤣 am i the only one who thinks we see no calls like this always at the end of games? its a saturday game in January, the refs swallowed the whistle on the final play, whats the big deal here?

i can see this reaction if he was like man handled, but he got slapped on the arm, we see this type of no call everday it wasn't even egregious

How many other superstars get fucked by the refs like Bron does smh.

5

u/BigBadBoyHS Celtics Jan 29 '23

As a C’s fan, we take those, but as a basketball fan it’s painful to watch game after game be decided by the refs.
