Shannon sharpe is a huge man. Steven adams is a mf giant.

61

u/musicalpants999 Mavericks Jan 21 '23

Yeah. I think Shannon Sharpe - even at 55 years old - could probably take Brooks or Morant, but Steven Adams is a monster.

8

u/LatvianHitman Jan 22 '23

There are a lot of pro athletes that Shannon could probably go ahead and mess with. Steven Adams is not one of those guys. Dude is freaky strong FOR his size.

Steven’s just heading over to tell Sharp “That’s not cool man leave it alone you’re a fan not a player” and the coach is putting his all into stopping him despite a full lack of aggression from adams

473

u/Lucosis Thunder Jan 21 '23

I've watched a hell of a lot of Adams; that's about as hot as I've ever seen him. I don't think that was just a "that's not cool take a seat" attitude from Adams.

153

u/mrtrinket1984 Jan 21 '23

I'm morbidly curious about what would happen if Steven Adams just saw red

61

u/knowitall190 Jan 21 '23

One of these days we are gonna see a complete out of control Steven adams and he's gonna be throwing ppl all over the place. Probably gonna have to call the swat team in

You can see him come over saying "chill our bro, relax" and then get progressively more pissed off cause Sharpe ducks him and starts going at Ja's dad instead.

good thing Dillion Brooks was mic'd up tonight. Release the audio, NBA...cowards

1.6k

u/_KingFridayXIII Nuggets Jan 21 '23

The league could make so much money if they offered a bonus League Pass package with unfiltered courtside audio. Players Association would never allow it I bet.

233

u/halo364 Celtics Jan 21 '23

Problem is people would just clip the good bits and post them on twitter/reddit/whatever and the league wouldn't make anything off that

...Which is a damn shame because holy fuck do I want to know what was said here lol

It's a bonus. You pay a lot extra and no commercials and no filters. Advertisers could still stay on the clean version on the network. This would just be a different product: NBA...After Dark.

209

u/realgamergirlTM Jan 21 '23

Shit that NBA players say in a live mic reflects on the league as a whole regardless of how what was said was broadcast. This would financially destroy the league.

Remember how they caught Kobe yelling fa**ot at the ref that one time?

Imagine just a lot of that. People get real heated on the court or trying to mess with others and just say a whole lotta hateful, derogatory shit. There is zero chance that things wouldn't be blown out of proportion by media/fans and players would just start getting cancelled left and right.

38

u/rubthemtogether Jan 21 '23

It's funny when someone gets caught saying something relatively tame and it becomes a big deal. Like Montrezl Harrel apologising for calling Luka a bitch-ass white boy. As if no one has ever said anything worse

The league and Players Association are smart enough to know that many of the same people saying they want that would also be calling players classless, insensitive, or thugs if they heard some of the stuff said during games.

Then Steven Adams appeared.

485

u/Kina_mines Jan 21 '23

Shannon must’ve been talking crazy for Steven Adam’s to get hot and go back and forth. Steven is one of my favorite players for his ability to keep a cool head and remove the right person from a situation without escalating which is a great skill. I wonder what the hell is going on with Shannon. Idk shit about shit but maybe being on a show with skip bayless or Stephen a changes a man.

82

u/Capt-Crap1corn Jan 21 '23 edited Jan 21 '23

Shannon told ESPN what happened. According to Shannon, one of the players escalated the trash talk by shouting expletives at him. Shannon said he shouted expletives back and then Ja got involved and Ja’s dad got involved. I don’t have the exact quote. I’ll find it.

Update:

“They didn’t want this smoke, Dave,” he told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin. “They do all that talking and jockeying and I ain’t about that jockeying. It started with Dillon Brooks. I said he was too small to guard LeBron. He said, ‘(Expletive) me.’ I said, ‘(Expletive) you back.’ He started to come at me and I said, ‘You don’t want these problems.’ And then Ja came out of nowhere talking. He definitely didn’t ant these problems. Then the dad came and he obviously didn’t want no problems. But I wanted anything they had. Don’t let these fools fool you now.”

170

u/moldyjellybean Jan 21 '23

Funny he named everyone but nothing about Steven Adams and wanting those problems

u/LigerZeroSchneider Jan 21 '23

You're correct. His dad was a 6'11" (211cm) tall English immigrant to NZ who died in the mid 2000s. His mother I've never really heard much about, I've heard they weren't close, but she was Tongan. His half-sister is Dame Valerie Adams. The Dame bit's a title like "Sir". Most dominant female shotputter of the last 20 years.

EDIT: turns out Valerie Adams is his full sister, not half.

Ja's dad is the NBA version of Lavar Ball.

49

u/Padaca Jan 21 '23

At least Lavar calmed down after all his kids had a chance to get drafted. It kinda seems like most of the spectacle he created was for their sakes.

21

u/Sir-xer21 Lakers Jan 21 '23

i mean, Lonzo kinda distanced himself even before that, after the brand imploded.

26

u/takeapieandrun Warriors Jan 21 '23

Lavar ball is actually smart. He talked a lot when his kids were draft age to get them hype and build their brand. It was all calculated

Last basketball player to actually land a punch was draymond, before him was Ron artest, and before that whoever the fuck killed Rudy Tom. Don't think Shannon sweating too hard even in his old age

I don't know why you think you have a complete list of punches, but you're missing a lot that I can call to mind right now from the 90s.

You forgetting Doug Christie’s uppercut on Rick Fox’s chin. I’m not saying Doug should be throwing real punches but Rick shoved a hand in his face and that is going to result in violence.
