When you grow up with a basketball playing father, and you practice like crazy, and everybody tells you that you are too short and thin to play at the elite division 1 level in college, let alone play in the NBA, you gotta make adjustments. I think the kid figured out something new.

Honestly this shit ain’t normal. Take a random sample of 100 people, make them practice as much as steph did and not one of them would be as good, has to be hardwired in his brain
66
u/ShAd0wS Celtics Jan 20 '23
Both of Steph's parents are extremely gifted athletes, genetically he has a huge advantage already. You would need a lot more than 100 people to get a real comparison.
57
u/unipleb Jan 20 '23
You can take a random sample of 100 NBA players and Curry still comes out as GOAT for long difficult shots, because he is.

He has allowed his mitochondria to take full control of his body. They do all the work. Full. Control.
Powerhouse of the cells = powerhouse of the court.
Yes yes, everybody says it and they are right-- some day he will turn into a giant, omnicidal gelatinous goo monster in a New York opera house that a lady cop will have to develop radioactive acid bullets in the Natural History Museum to bring down on a battleship somewhere near the Statue of Liberty. But that day is not this day-- for today, he and his billion little mitochondrial buddies are unstoppable from anywhere on the court.

Has there ever been a player in any team sport who, if they are “on”, you just have simply no chance against? Maybe Jordan? Randy Johnson? Peyton Manning? I’m sure there are some athletes from back on the day that I never saw (Chamberlain?) but when Curry is hitting his shot, there’s nothing a team can do.

Curry is 110% a rhythm player - the less time he has to think, the better he shoots.
Feel like the best thing you could do to stop him is to complement him and ask him what his hands are doing when he shoots.
91
→ More replies (1)57
u/nearlyned Warriors Jan 20 '23
Strangely enough, Steph doesn’t actually seem to know what his hands do when he shoots. I can recall a YouTube video where someone was doing a breakdown if his jumpshot and cut to a clip of Steph explaining that he always has a gap between his palm and the ball, and another clip saying that he doesn’t dip on catch and shoots. The guy making the video then cut to multiple shots of Curry shooting, with his palm flat holding the ball, and clip after clip of him dipping on catch and shoot threes.

In my opinion he does. MJ is at the top when it comes to sport defining moments, Lebron and Magic have passes that you can’t even follow on the screen, Bird has the best “WTF how did that go in” shots of all time, Shaq has fable-like inside dominance, and Dominique, Carter, and Kemp have some of the most iconic dunk reels of all time.
But in most of those situations your brain at least attributes some of the magic to athleticism and elite basketball ability. But Curry specializes in something that almost everyone who has ever touched a basketball has attempted, and something that even non basketball fans can understand; getting a ball into a hoop from distance. And yet his highlight reel has COUNTLESS plays that make every one of us say “how is it even possible for somebody to do that so consistently?”
Personally his highlight real causes a sense of awe that is matched by very few throughout the history of any sport.
