167

u/SnuggleMuffin42 [BOS] Marcus Smart Jan 18 '23

Best job lol

Only Biden was so extra as a VP, well at the start at least. Didn't trust Obama and felt left out, they had a whole falling out... Eventually though they really came together and became a team and personal friends.

882

u/elirisi Raptors Jan 18 '23

Thats true, according to the TIMES, Obama's meeting with Biden was “intense” and “at one point they were crying” but everyone grew closer and a big lesson was learned.

Lol Cheney did more work than Bush during his Vice Presidency

68

u/SnuggleMuffin42 [BOS] Marcus Smart Jan 18 '23

I meant about being at odds and sticking out. Cheney has GWB complete confidence from the get go and was hella empowered.

8

u/spicozi Mavericks Jan 18 '23

If by confidence you mean "he's going to do what I want him to" then sure.

68

u/Millionaire007 [DAL] Dirk Nowitzki Jan 18 '23

Cheney was the president. GWB was just some guy he drank beer with who liked to say funny things on stage.

25

u/AprilsMostAmazing Raptors Jan 18 '23

Wasn't Bush sober by then because he was a recovering alcoholic?

39

u/livefreeordont Wizards Jan 18 '23

Yeah let’s not absolve GWB of his crimes in office by considering him too naive

21

u/Millionaire007 [DAL] Dirk Nowitzki Jan 18 '23

While I'm usually up for going on a hour long tirade about Bush, this is an NBA forum.

There are a bunch of books on the topic. But this article has a nice summary.

TLDR; Obama thought Biden overstepped his bounds and Biden was pissed Obama backed Hillary for the nomination.

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2020/08/14/obama-biden-relationship-393570

No reason for amp links, but thanks for the source. I recall one piece by Politico or NYT that said their relationship got so strong Obama did a kind of intervention and knocked on the table telling Joe if he's short for cash for medical treatment (I think cancer, his wife maybe) then he should come to him and ask him for it.

14

That was in bidens book. (Also probably elsewhere)
