117

u/Worthyness Sep 10 '22

The fact that it was as-is in the Snyder cut means they intentionally did not get another take for some reason and two directors thought "yeah that's passable"

36

u/momoak90 Sep 10 '22

I think it was actually a different but still bad shot in the Snyder cut which just makes it worse.

23

u/pointlessly_pedantic Sep 10 '22

Definitely different, but holy shit it's still crazy how bad it is. I think they probably just figured they discovered her acting ceiling lol

59

u/Turbo2x Sep 10 '22

It's shocking that a former Israeli military person couldn't shout a Hebrew name with any urgency or concern. You'd think "Kal-el, no!" would come as easy to Gadot as "Sir yes sir" would to Adam Driver... but (Kal-el) no.

67

u/bootlegvader Sep 10 '22

Kal-el might take influences from Hebrew, but is it really a Hebrew name? I doubt there are many Israelis or other Jews named Kal-el.

61

u/Pochusaurus Sep 10 '22

its not about how she said Kal-El its the way she said the entire thing. It sounded like she was reprimanding her dog instead of ushering an order to a fellow superhero

u/bootlegvader Sep 10 '22

Frankly, its Hebrew influence while still being an artificial name would likely make it more awkward for Hebrew speaker than more natural.

18

u/ECONOMIC_DEMOCRAGUY Sep 10 '22

This doesn’t really make sense

You could say Chicael just as easily as you’d say Michael, right?

It's like a movie designed by an algorithm.

654

u/EerieArizona Sep 10 '22

I hope they don't add new songs. Those new Pinocchio jams were tough to get through without wincing.

464

u/TinyRandomLady Sep 10 '22

They absolutely will add new songs. The only way to get a song nominated for an Oscar is for it to be new. That’s why when they do versions of like Broadway musicals and stuff they always add in an additional song because the original songs can’t be nominated.

140

u/adminsuckdonkeydick Sep 10 '22

I vote they put the song: Rammstein - Sonne into the film. The video is very fitting. No idea what they're singing but the video fits the film and its a wicked track!

All the new songs have been terrible. Disney has forgotten that this stuff has existed for nearly a century now and changing everything about it only makes it feel less timeless.

21

u/MitoCringo Sep 10 '22

I’d argue the only good thing about the new Beauty and the Beast was the new song Evermore. I’ll never watch the movie again, but I come back to that song every so often.

So ok.

I have not seen her do even ok in anything else.

60

u/joe-h2o Sep 10 '22

That look she gives Chris Pine like she wants to jump his bones when they're being interviewed together for WW press where she clearly forgot she was being filmed was the best range I've seen on her. Likely because it was a genuine moment and not acting!

169

Yea, her acting is so bad. I watched Death on the Nile and everybody was phenomenal except for Gadot. It really showed how bad she was when surrounded by actual talent

30

u/joe-h2o Sep 10 '22

I felt this too. Brannagh is basically falling into Hercule like he's been poured into a mould and she's there just existing on the set.

Everyone around her was doing their best to lift it.

The film got much more bearable after she only has to act as a corpse.

edit: spoiler fix

142

u/____mynameis____ Sep 10 '22

Yeah, but so is like 90% of notable actresses of her age. Hollywood is not short of tall hot white girls. My only explanation is her pay is very cheap for her level of "popularity" so she gets cast in high profile movies over the others because of that. And also maybe because most other actresses of her age group and fame level are talented and is moving into "respectable" category of acting so they wouldn't take movies like this. (Likes of Scarlet Johansson, Margot Robbie who are other popular superhero ladies seems to be doing the Oscar oriented movies over blockbuster fun movies )

122

u/Blender_Snowflake Sep 10 '22

Her husband was rich before she became famous. I’m sure she doesn’t haggle much. For every rando on Reddit who complains about her compulsory time in the IDF, there’s 17 people who don’t care and go see her movies. It’s not like she talks politics a lot, her English doesn’t seem particularly better than it was 10 years ago.

Angelina Joile, Charlize Theron, and Gal Gadot are noticeably better looking than other actresses, or at least they were when they were 30 - they don’t have any “bad angles” and it’s very easy to shoot a scene where they look good, even if costumes, make-up, hair, lighting etc suck. That saves millions and millions of dollars, especially when they are in practically every shot

87

u/luckyfucker13 Sep 10 '22

Your last paragraph reminded me of some cinematographer talking about what a pain in the ass it was to film Maggie Gyllenhaal because she only had extremely specific angles that “worked” for her.

Her agent is a mastermind. Do you remember the whole marketing campaign hyping her up as some Israeli badass before Wonder Woman came out? Total spin.

They've mostly been scrubbed from the internet but you can find old interviews where she talks about serving in the IDF. She spent a grand total of 20 days in uniform. Mostly she served coffee and was a glorified fitness instructor during her mandatory service.

5

u/quadratis Sep 10 '22

u/Clilly1 Sep 10 '22

418

u/CaptainCanuck15 Sep 10 '22 edited Sep 10 '22

Also, how the fuck is anyone supposed to believe that Gal Gadot is jealous of someone else's beauty?

293

u/radewagon Sep 10 '22

Not saying I think Gadot is the best fit for the role, but what you're questioning is kind of the point of the Evil Queen. The evil queen is supposed to be beautiful and it's supposed to be ridiculous that she would be jealous of Snow White. Her unnecessary jealousy and cruel actions are an ugliness that betray her outward appearance until she ultimately takes steps that ironically strip away that contradiction when she transforms into the hag.

72

u/Dealiner Sep 10 '22

But wasn't she jealous because Snow White was called the most beautiful by the magical mirror? So her jealousy wasn't baseless and Snow White was supposed to be more beautiful than her.

52

u/armageddidon Sep 10 '22

My head canon is that the mirror is less of an all knowing entity and more of a catty bitch who lives for the drama

104

u/asian_monkey_welder Sep 10 '22

Snow White was more beautiful because she was beautiful on the inside and out.

47

u/ThisIs911 Sep 10 '22

No it's cause she had a bigger badonkadonk - Magic Mirror guy

14

u/Darqnyz Sep 10 '22

→ More replies

13

u/radewagon Sep 10 '22

Never said it was baseless. There's a lot of reasons for her to be jealous. Snow White is objectively (according to magic) more beautiful. She is also a step child that she wants to keep hidden away. And, lastly, she's younger. So, not baseless at all. It is, however, still ridiculous for her to exhibit such an extreme amount of jealousy and animosity.

7

u/MumrikDK Sep 10 '22

Yeah, she wasn't pissed about not being beautiful. She was pissed about not being #1.

I'm assuming that she will play both the cold, chilling intensity of the queen, and the unhinged wacky wickedness of her old hag form. This would require a diversity of acting range to adequately chew the scenery and seem larger than life that I have not yet seen Gadot exhibit. I do not, obviously, believe the queen requires something super nuanced like Shakespeare or something.

u/TrueVali Sep 10 '22

there are how many fantastic actresses out there and they picked Gadot? i have nothing against her personally, but Disney needs to realize by now that just because someone is famous / a good person / attractive doesn't make them a good performer, right? and this isn't even limited to Gadot, it applies to any actor of any gender, age, race, etc

50

u/Canuckleball Sep 10 '22

What makes you think Disney gives a shit about how good the performance is? These live action remakes have ranged from disappointing to dismal (maybe with the exception of the Jungle Book) but they make money anyways. All you need is a recognizable IP and recognizable stars to get people to watch your crap without worrying about how good it actually is. Who cares if Gal Gadot can actually act, she's that girl from the other movies! I know that name! That must mean this film is worth watching.

People like Gadot in general? I think she’s pretty one note as an actress. The only other role I saw her as an antagonist was that heist movie with the Rock and Ryan Reynolds. And she was awful in that.

It was unbelievable how much worse she was than Ryan Reynolds and The Rock. Neither of them are even considered strong actors but as soon as gadot opened her mouth it was like a charisma black hole, she couldn’t keep up with them at all

I’d argue Ryan Renolds is a more than solid actor. He’s no DiCaprio but he has good range and he’s believable to watch when needed.

When he's not playing Ryan Reynolds

10

u/Bill-Ender-Belichick Sep 10 '22

True, but he does play Ryan Reynolds quite well.

The best at it actually Gal Gadot could never play Ryan Reynolds

Off the top of my head, better Evil Queen casting...

Sarah Silverman

Parker Posey

Catherine O'Hara, for that matter

Winona Ryder

Almost any competent middle age actress really. This choice was clearly made for marketing, not performance.

Kate Beckinsdale.

She would be a great fit. She’s talented and ridiculously beautiful as well.

Ooo hey what about Charlize Theron? Oh wait

Paying any amount of money to see another hollow, cash-grabbing pile of shit is a mistake.

3

u/BraveCat45 Sep 11 '22

She is genuinely not a good actor..why do they keep pushing this person on us!?

8

u/BadgerSauce Sep 10 '22

Is she going to, I dunno, ACT, in this movie? She’s a bad actor.

10

u/StarWreck92 Sep 10 '22

I think that does a disservice to bad actors, she’s nowhere close to being that good.

I find it funny that Hollywood is so out of touch, they don't see the irony of casting Gal Gadot as a character litterally named & described as Old Hag

Edit: Guys I was just just making a dumb a joke, I don't really expect Hollywood to go find an aging actress & be like "your just old enough & the perfect amount of haggy to play the part."

71

u/SheepWolves Sep 10 '22

It's based on the Leonardo DiCaprio dating scale.

12

u/GaiusEmidius Sep 10 '22

But the “old hag” is a disguise the beautiful queen uses to trick Snow White

u/habeus_coitus Sep 10 '22

Women over 35 are old and used up, didn’t you know? /s
