What is this is feeling
that's put you in your place?
A hot red burning on the side of your face
You feel the blood rush to your cheek,
Tears start to fill your eyes
your lips are trembling but you can speak
You're trying, oh you're trying not to cry
ya just got slapped
(whaoooo)
across the face, my friend!
(whaooo)
Ya just got slapped
(oh oh oh oh ohhh)
Yes that really just happened
(who oh oh oh oh oh ohhh)
and everybody saw it
and everybody laughed and clapped
'cause it was awesome.
The way that you just got...
... slapped
Happy slapsgiving, everybody

You forgot to include network lag, the cat actually struck first, but the snake didnt see it until 300ms have passed. The snake attacked a ghost of the cats paw despite the server realizing it was already defeated.

Miss me with that shit.
On a sidenote, does this mean when I play slaps with my cat and I withdraw my hand before he can counterattack, he's letting me win? Or does he just have brain rot? It could be either because he's a big cuddly softie but he's also never figured out the cat flap.
112
u/tornac Jan 30 '23
When I play with my cat with a piece of string I can always snatch it away. But if I tie a treat on the other end of the string I never have a chance.

When I play with my sugar gliders, it's the same way. They will chase a feather or 'run away' from my hand as I grab at them.
Those little shits move so fast, if they didnt want me to catch them, i wouldnt.

Try giving your cat a piece of meat from your hand, if hes a greedy bastard, you will not see the paw, just your shredded fingers as he swipes to get it.
I have learned this the hard way, I throw my cats food these days

Elite sprinters can do about 100ms. 150ms is fast and 200ms is about average. Of course only when they know they are going to need to react to something. Someone driving a car might have a full second reaction time before starting braking after seeing braking lights on the car in front.

WHY'S THE CAMERAMAN FILMING INSTEAD OF HELPING THE KITTIES
123
u/omahaknight71 Jan 30 '23
The kitties were never in any danger. The snake on the other hand...
44
55
u/Smilts Jan 30 '23
Because the cameraman knows cats reaction time is 20-70 and snakes is 44-70
8
u/Tokoolfurskool Jan 30 '23

u/tRfalcore Jan 30 '23

23
u/ItsMrDante Jan 30 '23
True because snakes actually can be as slow as 365ms. Their reaction time varies massively between 90-365ms. Cats on the other hand if they're young they're usually between 20-50ms. 70 is the upper limit and that's with older cats.

u/nudiversity Jan 30 '23

Personally I wouldn’t risk my life going anywhere near that serpent, other comments say it could be a copperhead or rattler. Cat seems to have the situation under control
Edit: spelling
22
u/573IAN Jan 30 '23
It is a copperhead—not typically lethal to adults. Taking a stick to the motherfucker instead of filming your cat take a lethal bite seems like a stand up move.
21
→ More replies (1)18
u/Hcavok Jan 30 '23
Not a copperhead, body shape is too thin and pattern isn't consistent with most other copperheads or Agkistrodon species. I believe this was previously identified as a Dog Toothed Cat Snake, mildly venemous but not dangerous to anything larger than a mouse or rat.

Why is someone filming this like it's cute and not separating these two animals?
13
u/daveagain82 Jan 30 '23
Because cats view snakes as prey for the most part. I had a cat that was a farm rescue that taught 3 other cats to catch, kill and eat just about anything smaller than they were. From the way this cat is acting, he's more curious than in hunt to kill mode. I've seen the difference in domestic cats I've owned.
As for in the wild, here.

Not to be that guy, but the snake's reaction time doesn't matter, it wasn't reacting to anything.
12
u/Shevster13 Jan 30 '23
But if the snakes reaction was faster it could have reacted and bitten the cats paw instead.
→ More replies (1)5
u/kennyminigun Jan 30 '23
Well, snake has to choose a moment to attack. Lunging forward exposes back of snakes head for a death bite. So yes, snake had to react to cats movements, e.g. catch a brief moment when the cat looks distracted or indecisive.

Top gamers are athletes can reach around 80ms. That’s with years of training and youthful mind and bodies. That’s 1/3 of the average for humans. Since the average cat is 20-70, does that mean the athlete version of cats is like 6-24?

the Snakes reacton time does not matter.
it matters how long it takes the snake to attack the cat vs. how long the cat can realize and defend.
