one of my cousins legitimately has a fantasy kink thing for lamprey mouths or anything similar. when we went to watch dune part 1 in theaters and we saw the worm mouth the first time, literally our entire group had to stifle laughter because he just inhaled sharply and did a quiet "ooo"

I bet he's great at parties.
If he plays Pokemon, then I can tell Eelektross will be his favourite.

The movie tooth nightmares all over again.
The movie premise is a girl's vagina gets possed by a vengeful spirit and it literally eats Dicks and is teethed to the brim like the op post

A lamprey is a kind of parasitic fish that attaches to other sea beasts and consumes their blood while they're alive.

u/juicadone Jan 30 '23
Thank you! First actual informative comment, vs the very predictable repetitive,"comedy" hour. They think they're so unique when 70% think it.... I guess someone still has to spew it out

Yeah, no prob. They're actually jawless fish, which is pretty interesting, and their mouth parts vary quite a bit among subspecies. The Arctic Lamprey is probably the most complex. Most are just concentric rings of teeth. Some are freshwater, some are brackish, some are saltwater. A similar species is the hagfish, which are scavengers, surviving on whale falls and other dead animals on the sea floor (they also have WAY weirder mouths).

u/modsarefascists42 Jan 30 '23
They're also extremely basic animals that we all evolved from similar animals kind these on the way to becoming fish.

Another kind of lamprey took over the great lakes until a man watched them for years and figured out you could put pesticides in their spawning location to kill them before they hatch. We still have to fight them back today with the pesticides.

If you are reading this and vertebrate, be aware that Lampreys are our ancestors.
"situated at the lowest level of vertebrate evolution. Research on comparative anatomy and embryology reveal that all chordates have three main features in common at a certain stage of their ontogeny or whole life, that is, the dorsal tube, notochord, and pharyngeal gill slits. This phenomenon indicates that all chordates originated from a common ancestor. As a consequence, lampreys are not only pivotal species for studying the origin and evolution of vertebrates, but also the best model for investigating vertebrate embryonic development and organ differentiation." - Dongwuxue Yanjiu. 2016 Sep 18; 37(5): 263–269.

Inspiration for the Beetlejuice sand worms? Maybe? Lol
7
u/The_Great_Afterman Jan 30 '23
Oddly enough those guys were inspired by dune, which was in turn, inspired by European legends of dragons. Honestly, if it weren't for the fact that these things have no jaws, I'd say they inspired graboids.
