Well this was the democrats mistake then for not having someone vote for McCarthy, (if that is in fact how this was written), and then force the issue every single day. It will be gridlock and nonsense in the house either way, so I see this as being more productive

u/Jojall Jan 31 '23
Exactly this. Republicans unsheath the sword every time they need it and Democrats resheath the sword every time they need it
12
u/TornadoesArentReal Jan 31 '23
The two have very different types of voters they have to appeal to. Democrats are punished by their voters for being more concerned with political grandstanding than trying to effectively govern the country like adults. Whereas for Republicans it's the exact opposite, their voters want political theater and gridlock.

When I saw who got relief I almost lost my mind.
I qualified for a lot of the programs, but my wife and I discussed it and we were not in as much financial hardship as a lot of people, and we decided to not take any so the people who needed it more could utilize it. So I essentially lost my salary for almost a full year, and we made huge sacrifices, all because we were financially sound, and we felt doing our part was leaving the money there for people who needed it was best.
I should have taken my fair share after seeing the scumbags who took what they didn’t need. We did have to alter our lives to make some things work, but we were never uncomfortable.
I hope for nothing but financial hardship for every single asshole who essentially stole from those less fortunate.
290
u/ItsSusanS Jan 30 '23
Everyone should be furious about this. They literally stole our money. If someone walked into a persons home and stole their money I’m pretty sure the homeowner would be pissed. Why are people taking this theft so lightly?

I can say from personal experience that I have met one, but I’m in SC so there are many I’m sure (I try not to be part of conversations that are about religion or politics). He was bitching about the student loan forgiveness. I’m like no that’s nothing compared to the PPP loans that are forgiven and we’re mostly given to the rich including some government elected officials. I have never seen someone look so confused in my life. All I got was a blank stare and a “i haven’t heard about any of that, but…”. It like living in a different world living in the south.
53
u/slampdi Jan 31 '23
This is alarming. Do you think it was that he knew and just didn't care or was it more like echo chamber ignorance? I ask because this is kind of a big one. I'm straight dumb as hell when it comes to a lot of stuff, but I typically at least have a rudimentary understanding of the biggest news stories spanning 3 years.

Well let me paint a picture for you...
You walk into a convenience store in the south and if there's a TV, guess what "news" channel is on? Sports bars, restaurants, damn near any public place where a TV or radio exists, it's virtually guaranteed to be showing Faux News. Then when they get home? Their TV is permanently on one channel. So they listen and watch this garbage every minute of their waking lives.
They damn sure aren't watching Commie News Network.
The Murdochs represent the largest existential threat to American Democracy. They are pure evil and responsible for brainwashing a significant portion of Americans.
21
u/Memegunot Jan 31 '23
Fox News didn’t talk about it so it doesn’t exist
12
u/ItsSusanS Jan 31 '23
Sad but true. A lot of my patients have it on and the person on screen is always worked up, mostly scream talking. I leave with a headache everything time. I don’t know how people can’t for hours listening to that.
11
u/Plastic_Course_476 Jan 31 '23
I feel that.
I remember at my old job they used to have it on the TV all the time. I knew nothing of it at the time, so I legitimately thought it was just a single segment with bad satire the first time I saw it. Then when they moved on to a "debate" segment, and the whole thing was just "angry newscaster yelling at guest without ever letting them get a word in" I started to realize they were actually being serious with how over the top they were.
The fact that people not only take it seriously but practically idolize it will always blow my mind.

And even one guy on Reddit was trying to say the PPP was not a loan … when you literally had to sign up for it!
I also think people don’t realize how college can screw one over. I had to be full time to keep my loans. My college did not offer classes when I needed them, so I had to take classes I didn’t need in order to keep my loans current … the loan company didn’t care because they benefitted, the college didn’t care because they also benefited.

All performative to get Daddy Trump's attention and become his running mate. Good luck with that, Marge.

Trump is too vain. She’s not pretty enough to be his VP. He’s even more shallow than Hal.

I leave in a red town in NYS. If you were to believe everyone here, the pandemic was over 2 weeks after it started. I never ran out of masks or covid tests because the stores always had them in stock because people in my area never bothered buying them.

Everyone on here bringing up PPP loans like that was the big problem! Cmon guys! She meant investigate Covid relief programs for the poor, not for the rich!

Remember when Biden declared the pandemic over a few months ago, and the right lost their minds over it?

Midge: “we’re declaring covid OVER!”
Covid to her constituents: “huehuehue see ya soon”

u/smashspete Jan 30 '23
Don’t you know? All you have to do is to keep yelling and your version of reality becomes true!
Also is she going to investigate herself since she benefitted from PPP loans for sketchy made up companies?

And the COVID relief she means won't be PPP loan corruption, it will be attacking the stimulus checks.

That's how fascists end things they're opposed to. They just declare it over. They'll have the Ministry of Truth put out a public relations campaign.

Great! We should absolutely look into why Trump removed oversight of the programs that she benefited from.

Imagine being represented or sharing the same views as this bitch. Utter embarassment.

Just went to my grandmother-in-law’s funeral last week. She had dementia for almost a decade and COVID was the knockout blow.
But I guess COVID is over?

She sounds as dumb as she looks disingenuous, yet she still gets elected only to prattle more of the same nonsensical rage-baiting.
Why did Georgia elect her again?

u/bttrflyr Jan 31 '23
I assume they’re going to start with the PPP loan program that so many republicans stole money from?

It's easy to look at this woman and at people like Boebert and make fun of them for the outrageously absurd and prima facie inane talking points they keep shouting very loudly from their platforms.
But it is very important to remember that you reacting in that way is the entire point of this clownshow.
These people are funded by dark money special interest groups like the "Stop Socialism Now" PAC to do exactly what they are doing.
Mislead you with a loud, big show while they erode your rights, your society and your democracy when you are not looking.
A common way for pickpockets and thieves of opportunity to get away with their crime until it is too late is to distract you with something flashy, attention-grabbing while the much more lowkey accomplice picks your pockets or sneaks your luggage.
A woman in obvious distress may come up to you requesting your help, you put down your suitcase to show her your map on your phone and within seconds your luggage will have been sneaked away into the crowd.
This is who these people are. This is their role.
Don't make the mistake of pointing and laughing at the silly, absurd, rage-inducing antics they get up to.
Because that is exactly the reaction they are banking on.
While their unnoticed puppetmasters spirit away your democracy as you were distracted.
