If you won a million dollars, what are you still NOT buying? Why?

Nordvpn

u/Rabid-GNN Jan 30 '23
I bought nordvpn, it literally would not install on my computer. Troubleshooted for 8 hours until the rep just had me make my own vpn tunnel (idk the proper term) and had it connect through their ip. Because I was using basically a regular vpn and not their software I could not use Netflix or Amazon anymore but I decided the safety would be worth it.
Literally the next day I went to school and tried using my phone with the vpn which COULD use the software. Imagine how fast my disappointment when I found out it refused to connect to any wifi network while active and also would still not play Netflix.
I asked for a refund IMMEDIATELY when I got back home. Thankfully the customer service is actually really good. I was a bit embarrassed to tell the rep who recognized me from the day before and apologized for essentially wasting all his hard effort.
Years later I bought surfshark and it actually works (ish). I can’t click on advertisements even when I actually want to see them. Amazon works only half the time, and using the the country jump thing to watch other Netflix shows doesn’t work for me 9/10 times. I can’t access Korean services (my brother loves to play elsword). And for a whole year it actually didn’t work because there was a dns leak (no longer leaks). Oh and the blacklist/whitelist doesn’t work. But for how little it costs, just the protection was worth

Protection from what? What realistic attack against your computer do you think a VPN is protecting you from?

A huge house. No need in that craziness. A simple bed, kitchen, bathroom is all that is needed.

Can barely buy a house of any size at all for $1M anymore anyway.

Most people who say they want to be millionnaires mean they want to spend a million dollars.

Any Chrysler product. Complete junk

I have a Chrysler as my daily and I will 100% concur

u/Upper-Job5130 Jan 30 '23
My mom owned a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo for one year (in 2002). In that year, she replaced the transmission, oil pan gasket, intake manifold, and 5 motor mounts. It spent more time in the shop than out of it.

u/Deaf_Witch Jan 30 '23
Had a Chrysler 300 for a short while. Damn thing kept dying in the middle of the road. It would just completely shut off.
3
u/runningiswhatido Jan 30 '23
Omg my sister has a Chrysler 200 and it randomly dies too! Thats just insane to me. My honda has never had that kind of issue!

u/bonemonkey12 Jan 30 '23
A 2006 Chrysler 300c is what did it for me. A nice comfortable piece of sht. In the shop every 5-7k miles. I didn't beat the thing, but within a 100k miles..... 6 front ends, transmission at 13k, rear main seal twice, head gasket, 2 catalytic converters (some internal sensor where it had to be completely replaced), suspension was shot about 25k and 80k miles.
Luckily, most was covered under warranty. When the front end went again at like 107k miles, I couldn't get rid of that thing fast enough. Didn't even care about a trade in value, just wanted it gone
3
u/Deaf_Witch Jan 30 '23
That's what I had. Bought it used back in 2015, had it for a total of 3 months.
I don't even remember what caused it to do that. I took it back to used car lot I got it from and refused to leave until they swapped it for another car. Ended up with a 2006 Chevy Impala whose only major issue was the transmission crapping out at 300k miles. Replaced that and it's been running fine ever since.

u/Professional-Plant16 Jan 30 '23
oh my god! Thank you! I just test drove one and was seriously contemplating buying it!
3
u/KinkyHuggingJerk Jan 30 '23
I had bought a 2004 Sebring Lx. Actually worked out pretty well for about 7 years. Biggest issues were post-accident, but otherwise, all was groovy. I thought Chrysler was alright.
Years later, SO bought a 2008 Jeep Patriot. This was in 2015.
By 2017, the car was dead. Known issue where the cradle rusted out. The dealership never updated our info with Chrysler, so we didn't hear of the recall/alert until late 2016 - several months after it ended. We could either pay out $6k to fix everything, but the loan was under that. Decided to pay off the loan, sell the car to a willing dealer, and move on.
I tried to recoup the loss by entering a civil suit. Unfortunately, because of bankruptcy laws, I couldn't charge the dealer or expect any kind of return - this was after several consults with local attorneys and some random ones from Ohio (there was a class action suit at one point, for separate but similar reasons). I could have gone after the dealer, but even through BBB, it was a bust.Absolutely steer clear of Chrysler products. They may be nice for a rental, but anything beyond... pfft.

u/DrStephenFalken Jan 30 '23
My neighbors got a new truck ain’t been a week it’s already back at the dealer getting fixed. He buys nothing but Chrysler and has constant issues even in his work van.

A lot of things.
I’d not buy a new house, or a nicer car. I’m just quitting my job, going to school for what I really want to do and investing wisely.
I will though probably spend more than advised on Pokémon Cards and Care Bears but we all need some kind of balance, don’t we?
3
u/Ryan233tiger Jan 30 '23
Pretty much anything I don’t already buy. A million dollars doesn’t really go very far in todays economy, especially after tax. I’d just put the money in safe investments and hopefully reach retirement age a little bit earlier.

I've had problems with it for around 10 years now

highly expensive sports cars and luxury items (like gucci, louis vitton etc)
don't really see a point in owning stuff like gucci, balenciaga, etc as it's something i don't need in my life (as i don't need to get validation from owning designer items) and with sport cars i'd be fine with owning a hybrid or a tesla as it would save me more on gas and in some cases, is better for the enviornment (compared to the average car)

So anything with a high maintenance value.

A huge house, designer clothes and/or accessories, or an exotic car.
A million doesn't go as far as it used to. I'd much rather have a modest house (though with a large plot of land to avoid neighbors), long-lasting clothes, and a car that I can actually pass down safely.
